I and my family are originally Aramaic and one of the major crafts in our background is ceramics besides goldsmith and olive wood. Our family name, Kouz means ” ceramic pitcher”
Armenian ceramics from Jerusalem tell a story of migration from present-day Istanbul to Jerusalem when Armenians were charged by Ottoman rulers with restoring the 15th century tiles on the Mosque of Omar. Since then Armenian ceramics have been ubiquitous in Jerusalem and a very beautiful and popular souvenir item.
Each individual item is hand made with ceramic clay. Once complete it is heated to 1000 C until hardened. Each piece is then hand painted using metallic and oxidized paint in order to keep its natural color. Again it is returned to the oven at the same temperature and finished with a fine glaze.
We stock a huge selection of the finest Armenian ceramics. What differentiates our products from others is that ours are all hand painted while others merely print the design onto the product. Ours are also lead free, enabling you to eat from them, dishwasher and microwave safe and oven proof, making them robust and practical.
